Elijah Comes First

Greetings in the Lord!

Today's word comes from 3 different passages: Matt. 17:10-13/ 2 Thes. 2:9-12/ Rev. 13:11-14.

"The disciples asked him (Jesus), "When then do the teachers of the law say that Elijah must come first?" Jesus replied, "To be sure, Elijah comes and restores all things. But I tell you the truth, Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but have done to him everything they wished...Then the disciples understood that he was talking to them about John the Baptist."

"The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders, and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness."

"Then I saw another beast, coming out of the earth. He had two horns like a lamb, but he spoke like a dragon. He exerciesed all the authority of the first beast on his behalf, and made the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast, whose fatal wound had been healed. And he performed great and miraculous signs, even causing fire to come down from heaven to earth in full view of men. Because of the signs he was given power to do on behalf of the first beast, he deceived the inhabitants of the earth. He ordered them to set up an image in honor of the beast who was wounded by the sword and yet lived."

~With all that is happening in the Middle East right now, there has been much talk of end times, etc. Today's word is to share a short reminder on the false prophet that is also written about in 'end time' scriptures. First, in Revelation we see that the false prophet performs signs and miracles, even calling down fire from heaven. The only Biblical person to do that was Elijah. However, taken collectively from today's 3 passages, we see that the false prophet will perform miracles that imitate Elijah, seeking to deceive those who may be "waiting for Elijah to come first." Also, recall from Deuteronomy 13 a warning about false prophets in general that come and perform signs and miracles, then entice their onlookers to worship other gods. Have nothing to do with these prophets either. I am not sure why the Lord has put these messages so heavily on my heart, but I am called to share the words given, so I am obedient. Pray for discernment, fellow saints, the Lord will guide your footsteps and give sound counsel. Amen.

~Be blessed and be a blessing.
