Unless the Lord Builds It
Greetings in the Lord!
Today's word comes from Psalm 19:7-11 and Isaiah chapter 46, especially verses 1-2:
"The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes. The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever. The ordinances of the Lord are sure and altogether righteous. They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the comb. By them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward."
"Bel bows down, Nebo stoops low; their idols are borne by beasts of burden. The images that are carried about are burdensome, a burden for the weary. They stoop and bow down together; unable to rescue the burden, they themselves go off into captivity."
~The above scriptures in Psalm 19 tells us the Lord's commands give light, joy, life, and wisdom. So very different from the idols and gods of Babylon, which were worthless and weighed the people down. Over the past 5 years, whenever the Lord spoke to me about the United States of America, He always used the scriptures which mentioned Babylon. In the passage in Isaiah 46, I discern the Lord is referring to our obsession, and ultimate worship of industry and enterprise, i.e. the work of our hands. But a time will come and is already here when especially those idols will be taken from those who worship them. Only the commands of the Lord will bring life and joy to the weary--to those who labor in vain, who rebel against the wise counsel and guidance of the Lord's statutes. "By them is your servant warned, in keeping them there is great reward." (Ps. 19:11) Begin to speak the truths of Psalm 19 to those who may need to have His light shined in their lives. Industry and hard work did not make this country prosperous; no, it was the obedience to the Word and commands of the Lord that guided our efforts and sustained us.
