Our Quiet Ministries
Greetings in the Lord!
Today's word is from Matthew 12:15-28, which talks about the quiet and often misunderstood ministry of Jesus. Verse 15b-21: "Many followed him (Jesus) and he healed all their sick, warning them not to tell who he was. This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: 'Here is my servant whom I have chosen, the one I love, in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations. He will not quarrel or cry out; no one will hear his voice in the streets. A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not put out, till he leads justice to victory. In his name the nations will put their hope.'"
The passage tells us that He would not be listened to, but His actions would speak for themselves. As Elvis sang so enthusiastically, "A little less talk and a lot more action!" The thrust of this season is to be propelled from our pews to the broken hearted, oppressed, and spiritually lifeless in our socitey, whereever they may be found...isolated in their houses and nursing homes, drunk and confused in bars and back alleys, to the lonely and uninspired in the fitness clubs, board rooms, school functions, and even our own churches and give them the hope of Christ. Free the captives, heal the sick, raise the spiritually lifeless--that is what we are called to DO. And by our DOing, they will know Him, for "if I drive out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you." (Verse 28b.) Today's word reminds us to step out and DO the will of God for our lives and serve others as we've been called. Show the world that our God reigns!
