Harmless Cartoons?

Greetings in the Lord!

Today's word comes from Psalm 1:
"Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers. Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgement, NOR sinners in the assembly of the righteous. For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish."

I discern this word to be responding to the flurry surrounding the Prophet Mohammad caricatures. Understand this: many of the events in our world today, both good and bad, are the means to reveal our true heart attitudes to ourselves and the world. How do you honestly feel about the news reports of the riots?

The Word tells us not to follow the "counsel of the wicked", compromise with their wrongs, or to laugh at the whole event as if it doesn't matter (revealing our arrogance and lack of concern for others). As faithful believers we are to live our lives according to the Word, rejoicing over the promises of God and put all our faith in Jesus. Remember, the "wicked" and the "sinners in the assembly of the righteous" will be judged negatively by God. Jesus gives us a sober reminder in Luke 13:2-3: Jesus answered, "Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this way? I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish." God is in control of all things, so don't let circumstances or the actions of others dictate your responses or opinions...be faithful to the Word of God and be blessed.
