Nicodemus for President

Greetings in the Lord!

This weeke the Lord again talks more about the US politcal race for President, citing John chapter 3 as our frame of reference.

"Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a member of the Jewish ruling council. He came to Jesus at night and said, "Rabbi, we know you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the miraculous signs you are doing if God were not with him."
In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again....Flesh gives birn to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit....The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit."

~After Nicodemus expresses his skepticism, Jesus goes on to tell him that he cannot talk to him more about 'heavenly things' if he cannot even believe when he speaks of 'earthly things.' The end of the passage has Jesus telling him why the Son came:
"For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not persih but have eternal life." (John 3:16).

So, what can we learn about our next President? For starters, that this person has a formal learning of Christianity, but does not yet know the renewing work of the Spirit. In fact, though their heart is stirring to have a deeper understanding (relationship with?) of Jesus, there are many doubts clouding their view (and perceived persecutions for acceptance thereof) and the whole issue is seen as a threat to their current position/status/lifestyle, etc. Lastly, and most importantly, at the root of the situation is condemnation: they view God as a punishing, judging God and they do not yet believe, understand or accept that Jesus came to save us from our sins.
We can begin to pray this day that the Spirit will continue to stir this person's life so much that by the time they are elected they will unashamedly accept, declare and stand for Jesus Christ. Remember: in John 19:38-42, Joseph of Arimathea AND Nicodemus came to take care of the burial of Jesus. "Taking Jesus' body, the two of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of linen." (John 19:40a). We must remember the earlier word of the Lord that said: "The first will be last and the last will be first." This next President will have to deal with those who fight against Jesus Christ and the work of the Holy Spirit. This President will indeed be called upon to take care of the Body of Christ....and they will with full compassion and self-sacrifice.

We, as believers in Christ, can pray that our own hearts will continue to be stirred to accept whoever the Lord has chosen to be our next leader; that the Holy Spirit will guide us as the election process moves forward so that we would have no doubt who we are to vote for on that day--and will prayerfully support them after they are in office. Let's begin to trust in the Lord's Providence and wisdom for our nation and believe that it is the will of our Father to want to bless, protect, and direct our lives. In Jesus' name, Amen.

~Be blessed and be a blessing.
