Season of Babylon's Influence

Greetings in the Lord!

Today's word comes from Jeremiah 27. It is an interesting chapter because Jeremiah gives the word not only to Judah, but also to all the kings of Edom, Moab, Ammon, Tyre, and Sidon through the envoys that had come to Jerusalem to visit King Zedekiah.

...This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: "Tell this to your masters: 'With My great power and outstretched arm I made the earth and its people and the animals that are on it, and I give it to anyone I please. Now I will hand all your countries over to My servant Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; I will make even the wild animals subject to him. All nations will serve him...until the time for his land comes; then many nations and great kings will subjugate him."

"'If, however, any nation or kingdom will not serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon or bow its neck under his yoke, I will punish that nation with the sword, famine and plague, declares the Lord, until I destroy it by his hand. So do not listen to your prophets, your diviners, your interpreters of dreams, your mediums or your sorcerers who tell you, 'You will not serve the king of Babylon.' They prophesy lies to you that will only serve to remove you far from your lands; I will banish you and you will perish. But if any nation will bow its neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon and serve him, I will let that nation remain in its own land to till it and to live there, declares the Lord." (Jeremiah 27:4-11).

This word is very interesting becauses it proclaims that the Lord has again chosen Babylon to exercise authority over the nations of the earth for this period of time--and extends a warning to those nations that will not submit to Babylon. This is the decree and will of the Lord and has nothing to do with the pleasure or displeasure of Babylon in the eyes of God. They did not earn this role by any means or were deserving of it, but rather, Babylon was simply chosen to be the tool the hand of God will use to carry out His purposes for the nations of the earth.

I've written many times that God speaks of the United States as this modern-day Babylon. So the word today is about the current season we are in---one of increased influence (political, militarily, and yes, global economic decision-making) that the United States will have over the nations of the world. And woe to the nations that listen to the lies of their "wise men", sorcerers, diviners, mediums and false prophets telling them that they do not have to bend their knee to Babylon. "Sword, famine, and plague" is their lot.

The last part of the chapter is also interesting and right to the point for Israel:

"This is what the Lord says: Do not listen to the prophets who say, 'Very soon now the articles from the Lord's house will be brought back from Babylon.' They are prophesying lies to you. Do not listen to them. Serve the king of Babylon, and you will live. Why should this city become a ruin? If they are prophets and have the word of the Lord, let them plead with the Lord Almighty that the furnishings remaining in the house of the Lord and in the palace of the king of Judah and in Jerusalem not be taken to Babylon.'" (Jeremiah 27:16-18.)

~Be blessed and be a blessing.
