Important Word About Prophetic Words

Greetings in the Lord!

Several times in the Gospels Jesus warned his disciples about deception in the End Times, namely through the coming of false Christs and false prophets.

Jesus said to them: "Watch out that no one deceives you. Many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am he,' and will deceive many.....At that time if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or, 'Look, there he is!' do not believe it. For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform signs and miracles to deceive the elect--if that were possible." (Mark 13:5-6, 21-22).

How would it be possible to deceive the elect?

In Matthew 7:15-23 Jesus gives the telltale sign of a false prophet: bad fruit. So--what is 'bad fruit'? The American church likes to call 'bad fruit' any word that doesn't make them 'feel-good,' causes controversy, or doesn't line up with their understanding of Scripture. Makes me wonder how Paul would've gotten along in today's American church! However, Jesus goes on in verses 21-23 to give us an idea of what 'good fruit' is: "he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven."

"Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!" (Matthew 7:22-23).

The Lord is speaking to us today to come deeper in our walk with Him. Deception comes when we allow any other plumbline other than Scripture to be our measuring stick. Deception comes when we decide that we will do what we want to do instead of following the leading of the Holy Spirit. Deception comes when we decide to use our gifts in accordance with what we desire or what the world expects from us (ie. preaching to the choir), instead of telling the word of God, the very truth of the voice of God and what He is saying to us.

Yesterday I shared about "Politically correct prophecy" and the dangers that come with that. You know, the enemy likes to use 99% truth with 1% falseness sometimes. Let me tell you the rest of the story. The word that the ladies spoke to me at the conference was 99% true. But when one of the ladies "encouraged" me to "be open to the many languages of God", my spirit had a check. Did you know that that word is completely not Scriptural? In fact, in 1 Corinthians 14:21-25 Paul uses the Old Testament example of God speaking to His people in "strange tongues" and the "lips of foreigners" because they will not listen to Him--it was a sign of judgment on them, just as tongues are to be a sign to non-believers, Paul says. In Acts 2:5-13, the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples there and they spoke in tongues that could be understood by all the many peoples present there--but they heard in their own languages! The miracle was not in the fact that they could hear the disciples speaking in tongues, but in the fact that they could understand what they were speaking! The Lord speaks to us in our own language because He desires to have a close and intimate relationship with us.

Therefore, we must understand that by the woman "encouraging" me to "be open to the many languages of God," she was in fact (unknowlingly) encouraging me to listen to voices other than the Lord! Now that is not a very "encouraging" word afterall! However, the prophetic ministry teams had decided beforehand that they would only share "encouraging and comforting" words to their listeners, thereby they opened themselves up to lying spirits that would only tell them what they wanted to hear. (1 Kings 22:21-23).

Please hear the word of the Lord today! If you receive a prophetic word from the Lord and change or alter its message to suit the likes of the listener you are in error and will be rebuked (Prov.30:5-6). If you decide ahead of time that you will only speak "encouraging" words to your listener you run the risk of hearing lying spirits that will tell you only what you want to hear (1 Kg 22:21-23). If you decide that you only want to hear words that 'tickle your ears' please read the books of 1 & 2 Timothy, James, 1 & 2 Peter, and Titus and see what trouble awaits you.

Like it or not, we are at war with the enemy. It is not the same as it ever was! We must today press in and allow the Lord to trim off the fat in our lives. Allow yourself to go through trials and to search out His truths in His word because He is refining us for warfare and kingdom authority. Do not settle for anything less than an intimate relationship with the King of Kings, Jesus Christ. Then, we will grow in our understanding of Him, discern His voice, and be motivated to live our lives with pure hearts, childlike faith, and fear of the Lord. Then, we can be sure of the faith and promises we have in God.

~Be blessed and be a blessing.
