The Wise Steward

Greetings in the Lord!

Today's word comes from the book of Proverbs--my favorite book of the Bible.  It has short bits of wisdom, easy to understand, but when applied appropriately, can pack quite a punch in its truth!  Like today's topic: the wisdom of being a good steward.

"One man pretends to be rich, yet has nothing; another pretends to be poor, yet has great wealth."  Proverbs 13:7
"Better to be a nobody and yet have a servant than pretend to be somebody and have no food."  Proverbs 12:9
"The wisdom of the prudent is to give thought to their ways, but the folly of fools is deception."  Proverbs 14:8

Each of these proverbs is a little different take on the foolishness of trying to be something you're not: either so rich that you don't have a care in the world and waste your money, or so poor that you have an easy excuse for being stingy, or so smart that you don't heed using common sense.  It's foolishness to not live within your means, and to not be generous when it is in your resources to give to those in need.  Sometimes all we need is a friendly reminder that we are only stewards of the things we have--everything we have came from God, and He is entrusting us to make good use of our resources.  If we are faithful in being generous during the times when we have some to share, there will be some given to us on the days that we are in need, He will see to that.

So my prayer today is that we will be proactive and cheerful givers of the resources we have to meet the needs of others; and, that God will open our eyes to the way we really are with our money and resources, so that we can make godly decisions with our finances from day to day.  In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

~Be blessed and truly, be a blessing to others.
