Hooked On A Feeling

Greetings in the Lord!

"Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law. The commandments, "Do not commit adultery," "Do not murder," "Do not steal," "Do not covet," and whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this one rule: "Love your neighbor as yourself." Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law."

"And do this, understanding the present time. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature." Romans 13:8-14.

~Love is more than a feeling. We've heard that many times. In fact, in this passage the apostle Paul puts it into Scriptural context for us: "love is the fulfillment of the law." And the law was originally given so that we may know what sin is. So, where's the part about us feeling all gooey inside? You're right--it's not there.

"The man who says, "I know Him," but does not do what He commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But if anyone obeys His Word, God's love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in Him: Whoever claims to live in Him must walk as Jesus did." 1 John 2:4-6.

Father, help us to forgive those we need to forgive; teach us not to compare ourselves with others but to know who we are in your Son, Jesus Christ; reveal to us the ways in which we are kidding ourselves--shine Your Light in our dark places, Lord, and purify us. Lastly, Holy Spirit continue to speak to our hearts and guide us into all righteousness in Christ Jesus, that we may overcome our feelings and instead walk as Jesus walked and love others in truth and justice just as He did.
In Jesus name I pray, Amen.

~Be blessed and be a blessing.
