Word for St. Louis, Missouri
Greetings in the Lord!
Today's word is from 1 Kings 21:17-20, 23, 25-26:
"Then the word of the Lord came to Elijah the Tishbite: "Go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, who rules in Samaria. He is now in Naboth's vineyard, where he has gone to take possession of it. Say to him, 'This is what the Lord says: Have you not murdered a man and seized his property?' Then say to him, 'This is what the Lord says: In the place where dogs licked up Naboth's blood, dogs will lick up your blood--yes, yours!'"
"Ahab said to Elijah, "So you have found me, my enemy!"
"I have found you," he answered, "because you have sold yourself to do evil in the eyes of the Lord....And also concerning Jezebel the Lord says: 'Dogs will devour Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel.'....There was never a man like Ahab, who sold himself to do evil in the eyes of the Lord, urged on by Jezebel his wife. He behaved in the vilest manner by going after idols, like the Amorites the Lord drove out before Israel."
~For the celebration of July 4th, St. Louis has a city fair down by the Arch. On that day, the Holy Spirit led me to do some study of the history of the St. Louis Fair, which was called the VP Fair up until 1997. What did the "VP" stand for? "Veiled Prophet." Yes, indeed. In fact, they still hold and call the parade that kicks off the fair the Veiled Prophet Parade.
As it turns out, in 1878 the Veiled Prophet Organization, or the Society of the Veiled Prophet started the parade in promotion and honor of St. Louis. In reality, the parade honored themselves as it was an organization made up of the wealthy, white and powerful in St. Louis. And more than that, the commoners said they were robber barons, power brokers, scoundrels, and digruntled ex-Confederates. Nice city history, huh? The icing on the cake has to be that one of the parade founders--the person who birthed the Veiled Prophet idea, Alonzo Slayback (who was a lawyer that was notorious for slick attorney tricks of publicly mocking defendants, smear campaigns and spreading lies), got himself shot to death by the city's newspaper editor at the time. So much drama! And why would the city's elite want to be associated with a "Veiled Prophet", anyway?
With more study, I found that the Veiled Prophet was a real man who lived in Persia early in the 7th century. His name was Al-Muqanna. He believed himself to be the incarnation of God and performed magic tricks, passing them off as "miracles," along with carrying out murder plots to gain power. Thomas Moore used him as the main character in his poem, "Lalla Rookh," in which Al-Muqanna was shown to be what he really was, 'a war-mongering trickster.'
So, over the course of months that I've been living near St. Louis, the Lord has been teaching me about the strongholds over this city--mainly a Jezebel spirit. It is interesting to see just how woven into the fabric of the city's foundation this demonic spirit had become. While in prayer this weekend the Lord showed me a vision of that Jezebel spirit pacing the downtown streets of St. Louis. She was extremely tall, head and shoulders above the tallest buildings, and was touching several of the buildings as she prowled about. Later that day I went into St. Louis and looked at the buildings I saw in the vision--mainly Court and city administrative buildings. Would you believe that there is a pyramid with pagan Egyptian statues and symbols on the top of the Civil Courts building? In fact, there are pyramids on the tops of prominent old buildings all over the city of St. Louis, complete with pagan symbols, signs, and statues. Those symbols are like a marking of territory! Little surprise, then, that violence (declared America's "Most Dangerous City"), immorality (has the 2nd largest Mardi Gras parade in the US), and idolatry (headquarters for occult/pagan organizations) are rampant! But hear the word of the Lord...

The Lord will rise up and level the high places of this city! He has decreed that Jezebel will be thrown from the heights! Justice will move swiftly through St. Louis' court system (and city's ranks of civic leaders and global businesses) as the Lord moves His people into positions and offices. "Before your pots can feel the heat of the thorns--whether they be green or dry--the wicked will be swept away. The righteous will be glad when they are avenged.....Then men will say, 'Surely the righteous still are rewarded; surely there is a God who judges the earth.'' (Psalm 58:9-11). "May the Lord cut off all flattering lips and every boastful tongue that says, 'We will triumph with our tongues; we own our lips--who is our master?' "Because of the oppression of the weak and the groaning of the needy, I will now arise," says the Lord. "I will protect them from those who malign them." And the words of the Lord are flawless, like silver refined in a furnace of clay, purified seven times. O Lord, You will keep us safe and protect us from such people forever. The wicked freely strut about when what is vile is honored among men." (Psalm 12:3-8).
