A Scorching Wind Will Be Their Lot

Greetings in the Lord!

Today's word comes from Psalm 11:

In the Lord I take refuge.  How then can you say to me:
"Flee like a bird to your mountain.  For look, the wicked bend their bows; they set their arrows against the strings to shoot from the shadows at the upright in heart.  When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?"
The Lord is in His holy temple; the Lord is on His heavenly throne.  He observes the sons of men; His eyes examine them.  The Lord examines the righteous, but the wicked and those who love violence His soul hates.

On the wicked He will rain fiery coals and burning sulfur; a scorching wind will be their lot.
For the Lord is righteous, He loves justice; upright men will see His face.

I received this Psalm all summer, when Iraqi Christians were indeed fleeing from Muslim extremists to a mountain for safety.  They were besieged on that mountain for at least ten days without water, food, or shelter before help could get to them.  Many other Christians were taken from their homes and shot and killed in the desert.  By all accounts, the sure foundation of good over evil seemed to be crumbling.  But as the Psalm is clear to point out, God is securely positioned on His throne--even when evil men succeed in their schemes and shed innocent blood; God sees and will hold them accountable for their actions, for the Lord abhors this violent behavior.

"On the wicked He will rain fiery coals and burning sulfur; a scorching wind will be their lot."
~Be blessed and be a blessing.
