Avoid a Bad Haircut

Greetings in the Lord!

Today's word is actually part of a 6-month study that the Lord has been teaching me about, one that is a lot more common than people will want to acknowledge in the Church today. It is about adultery and the adulteress spirit.

"My son, pay attention to my wisdom, listen well to my words of insight, that you may maintain discretion and your lips may preserve knowledge.
For the lips of an adulteress drip honey, and her speech is smoother than oil; but in the end she is bitter as gall, sharp as a double-edged sword.
Her feet go down to death; her steps lead straight to the grave.
She gives no thought to the way of life; her paths are crooked, but she knows it not."
Proverbs 5:1-6.

First let's examine the top characteristic of an adulteress spirit: smooth, deceptive words that use charm and flattery and pleasantries to seduce the listener's heart--it's the same as preparing a fireplace with paper, kindling, and small pieces of wood with the intention of setting it ablaze. Sounds all cozy and warm until you realize that you are the next log up for the fire! The use of seduction and charm in this way creates an emotional trap for the targeted victim.

"I find more bitter than death the woman who is a snare, whose heart is a trap and whose hands are chains. The man who pleases God will escape her, but the sinner she will ensnare." Ecclesiastes 7:26.

The next characteristic of an adulteress spirit is an entirely selfish, unfaithful heart--she is only faithful to herself! She will betray anyone, anywhere, anytime for her own personal gain and self-gratification. While this could be said of many types of spirits, the adulteress spirit uniquely mixes seduction, sexuality, and greed together like a poison that's then slipped into the victim's "wine." Therefore, understand that the victim willingly engages in the seduction by drinking the tainted wine and is at fault, too, because the whole stage was set with the anticipation of enjoying pleasure.

It's also important to note that pleasure in and of itself is not the true goal, but that it is just the means to an end; it's the avenue used by this demonic spirit to feed the selfish desire firmly planted the the heart of the adulteress; it's true goal is to corrupt and to try to destroy the victim in emotional, physical, and spiritual ways. Herein lies the sheer danger of engaging with an adulteress spirit and why every passage about adultery ends with a reference to hell, the grave, a pit, and death! That is the ultimate goal of the adulteress spirit.

I encourage you to read again the story of Samson and Deliah from the book of Judges to better understand the dynamic and destruction of the person who engages with the spirit of adultery. Samson was not an innocent in this story; he was a man called by God who naively thought he could engage in sexual immorality and arrogantly disregard the Nazirite covenants placed on his life and not get ensnared by sin. Wrong! How quickly he was captivated then betrayed by Deliah, who sold him out for silver and honor among her own people. She had him shaved and he lost his strength (the Lord left him) and immediately they put out his eyes held him as a prisoner and slave in prison.

That's the goal of the adulteress spirit, to see the person of God stopped dead in their tracks and bound helpless. Lucky for us, we serve a merciful God who will accept our true repentance and allow our hair to grow out again so we can serve Him faithfully...but it does take time, and there needs to be a growth again in our spiritual life like the return of full locks on our bare head.

I pray in the name of Jesus that the Body of Christ will embrace the lessons learned by Samson and heed the warnings in Proverbs about the dangers of the spirit of adultery and of the adulteress. We can be sure that "the mouth of the adulteress is a deep pit; he who is under the Lord's wrath will fall into it." So today my prayer is that the Church will live to please God and escape the enticements of the spirit of adultery and sexual immorality.

~Be blessed and be a blessing.
