You Are Firmly Established in Truth

Greetings in the Lord!

For the past few days the Lord has been leading me to read passages of Scripture that talk about standing firm in the truth and contending for the faith. Today's passage is more of the same. 2 Peter 1:12,16-21~

"So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have....We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased." We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain. And we have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it,...Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit."

~This passage is so helpful as it highlights how we are to go about standing in the faith:
1) Always remind each other and yourselves of the truth of the Word
2) Continue to believe in the accounts and testimonies given in the Gospels
3) Above all, study the Scriptures (especially the prophecies about Christ and his coming again) and know that "no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit."

"A matter of interpretation"--that is an all-too-common excuse given by unbelievers to deny the truth of the Scriptures...even for some Christians, this same excuse is given to accomodate their own beliefs or side-step an opportunity to be challenged (and ultimately grow) in their faith and walk in Christ. "...Prophecy never had its origin in the will of man..." The matter of 'interpretation' is not even an issue when one considers the prophecy of Scripture. Peter's eyewitness testimony is convincing to me, as he gives in 2 Peter 1:16-18, but natural minds are quick to point out that every eyewitness may not see the same as another...in fact, the gospel stories are an example of that. But the "prophecy of Scripture did not come about by the prophet's own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carred along by the Holy Spirit."

May you continue to study the "prophecy of Scripture" and press on in faith, holding firm to the truth that was entrusted to us by God through Christ Jesus. Amen and amen.

~Be blessed and be a blessing.
