Proclamation of Nahum--Nineveh Will Fall

Greetings in the Lord!

After a long spring of being 'in the trenches', so to speak, I am finally able to brush off the dust, lift my head and recline a moment while I tap out this word of the Lord to you.  It comes from the little book of Nahum, chapter 3, verses 18 and 19:

"O king of Assyria, your shepherds slumber; your nobles lie down to rest.  Your people are scattered on the mountains with no one to gather them.

Nothing can heal your wound; your injury is fatal.  Everyone who hears the news about you claps his hands at your fall, for who has not felt your endless cruelty?"

This word is for none other than Bashar Assad, current, but soon to be deposed president of Syria.  I remember watching the Barbara Walters interview with him in early 2012 where he lied his way through, professing to have the best interests of the people in mind, while he denied responsibility for the killings and tortures he condoned as leader of the country.  He is a proficient and confident liar, well able to articulate the most heinous of lies with a disarming and wiling smile.  But, the more talented and experienced Barbara was able to expose him, if even for less than a second in her 45-minute interview.  She kneaded his ego with easy, answerable questions to sooth him and lull him, then asked him this zinger: "Do you feel...guilty for what you have done?"  So caught off guard his frozen facial expression screamed "GUILTY!" then he recovered and gave a soft chuckle and smirk and asked, "For what?"

"May the table set before them become a snare; may it become retribution and a trap.  May their eyes be darkened so they cannot see, and their backs be bent forever.  Pour out Your wrath on them; let Your fierce anger overtake them.  May their place be deserted; let there be no one to dwell in their tents...Charge them with crime upon crime; do not let them share in Your salvation.

The poor will see and be glad--you who seek God, may your hearts live!  The Lord hears the needy and does not despise His captives."  Psalm 69:22-27, 32-33.

~Be blessed and be a blessing.
