Wisdom Cries Out

Greetings in the Lord!

This week as I watched yet more news stories of young males causing trouble with their arrogant and foolish behaviors--even in the faces of law enforcement and court officials--I was lead to read from the book of Proverbs about "foolish sons."

"A wise servant will rule over a disgraceful son, and will share the inheritance as one of the brothers."  Proverbs 17:2

"A foolish son brings grief to his father and bitterness to the one who bore him."             Proverbs 17:25

"To have a fool for a son brings grief; there is no joy for the father of a fool."  Proverbs 17:21

"An evil man is bent only on rebellion; a merciless official will be sent against him."      Proverbs 17:11

There is an epidemic of foolishness, violent and arrogant, in our younger population today.  And don't think I am only pointing to young males--no way!  Young women can be just as foolish, acting as prideful and vulgar as any male.  There will be no joy to come from their ways, either to us or to them, ultimately.  Shame and disgrace are their lot.  The righteous will have to cover their eyes and the eyes of their children to prevent their lewdness from leaving an imprint in their minds.

The Lord gave our forefathers a wonderful inheritance--freedom, prosperity, ingenuity, and strength, but many in our younger population will not receive it.  Instead, they will be the borrower, not the lender; they will serve the "wise servant," whether that be a righteous foreigner, immigrant, or American believer, and have to share what was originally supposed to be theirs alone.  That generation is at risk for losing many of the blessings we take for granted as a nation.  But realize, it has been a slippery slope for some time, and the apple doesn't fall far from the tree of "free love" and "sex, drugs, and rock & roll."  Parents share in the shame of their rebellious children.

But shame alone isn't enough.  Proverbs 17:11 tells us that the Lord allows "a merciless official" to act on His behalf.  While the news is quick to highlight the races of the offenders, the truth is, the Lord is dealing with the issue of foolish rebellion, which is evil in His sight.  If we consider that there have been white, black, Hispanic, and Asian people all involved in current news stories the past few months, we can easily see that the common denominator with all of them is foolish rebellion.  There have been no happy endings to remedy this, only harm to themselves and others.  So what can we do as people of God?  We can heed His words!  When the days get darker, we will shine brighter!

"Does not wisdom call out?  Does not understanding raise her voice?  On the heights along the way, where the paths meet, she takes her stand; beside the gates leading in the city, at the entrances, she cries aloud:  'To you, O men, I call out; I raise my voice to all mankind.  You who are simple, gain prudence; you who are foolish, gain understanding...Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than gold, for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her.'"

"'To fear the Lord is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech.  Counsel and sound judgment are mine; I have understanding and power....Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway.  For whoever finds me finds life and receives favor from the Lord.  But whoever fails to find me harms himself; all who hate me love death."  Proverbs 8:1-5, 10-11, 13-14, 34-36.

~Be blessed and be a blessing.
